It is in the region of Aragon in northeast Spain. One of its main attractions is its mountainous Pyrenean area, which is the ideal place for skiing in winter, and home to several major resorts such as Candanchú and Formigal. It is also perfect for adventure sports in spring and autumn. The province of Huesca also has a range of other outstanding natural attractions such as the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park, declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.

San Juan de La Peña Monastery

The monastery consists of two buildings, the New Monastery, dating from the 17th century, in the Baroque style, and the Old Monastery, from the 10th century, in the Romanesque style. It has its origins in a hermitage church built where the monastery was constructed in the 10th century, with what is known as the Mozarab style Lower Church being built first, and consecrated in 920.

Loarre Castle

Impressive 11th-century Romanesque fortress. It houses the church of Santa María. It was built in the late 11th century on the orders of King Sancho Ramírez I of Aragon, on the remains of an old Roman fortress. It is considered to be the most important Romanesque fortress in Spain. It has an irregular floor plan and a double wall with cylindrical towers.

Benasque

The spectacular scenery of the Benasque valley makes it the ideal place for many sports, both during summer and winter. The village is located in the old Ribagorza county, formed by the valleys that surround the Esera river. Benasque is surrounded by the highest concentration of peaks higher than 3000 metres in the entire Pyrenees, among which we must point out the Aneto peak, 3404 metres high. In the nearby town of Cerler we find the tallest ski resort of the Aragonese Pyrenees.

Huesca Cathedral

Built on the remains of the Misleida Mosque. The cathedral is located in the old town and was built between the 13th and 16th centuries. Building work was begun by Jaime I at the end of the 13th century on the remains of the Misleida Mosque. It is in the Gothic style and has three naves with side chapels. There are stone statues of the apostles at the doorway.

Panticosa

In the region of Alto Gállego, deep into the Tena valley, we find Panticosa, a first-class tourist town with a ski resort for alpine and cross-country skiing. Panticosa is a charming village on the course of the Caldares river, with traditional large houses made of stone, which line steep, narrow streets. It also has a Romanesque church from the 13th century.
