The former capital of a Moorish kingdom (Taifa), the small town of Albarracín has preserved all its Islamic and mediaeval flavour. Its old quarter has the Property of Cultural Interest designation. The main thing that surprises visitors who arrives at the town of Albarracín is its imposing fortified enclosure, whose perimeter is far larger than the area of the urban centre. What we see today corresponds to three different periods of construction.

Prado Del Navazo Shelter

It is part of the Rock Art of the Mediterranean Basin of the Iberian Peninsula and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Prado del Navazo Shelter, also known as "Toricos de Navazo", is a 4 m2 surface that has engravings and large white animal figures. There are many pictures of isolated bulls and archer figures were added later on. It is a post-Palaeolithic shelter, dating from the Neolithic period (7,000 - 5,000 B.C.).

Albarracin Diocesan Museum

The museum has interesting pieces of religious art, including painting, sculpture, precious metalwork and musical instruments, as well as textiles from the 14th-18th centuries. Outstanding among them is an ensemble of Flemish tapestries that relate the story of Gideon, and a 14th-century processional cross, as well as a collection of chalices. On your visit you also have access to the old private rooms of the Bishop of Albarracín, interesting for their austerity. From the balconies of these rooms there is a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside.

Valle De Cabriel Biosphere Reserve

The Cabriel river is the main character of this unique natural space that covers large areas of the regions of Aragón, Castile – La Mancha and the Region of Valencia. It was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2019. The water and the spectacular gorges are the star attractions of the Valle del Cabriel area.
