This provincial capital boasts the largest number of protected spaces and castles and fortresses in Spain, and stands in a setting of olive groves. Its origin as a centre for Arab caravans, its importance as a stronghold on the Castilian-Muslim frontier during the Reconquest, and its current role as a leading olive oil producer –earning it the designation of "Olive Oil Capital of the World"– all make this a place not to be missed.

Sierra Mágina Mountain Range

Among hectares of olive groves, in the Sierra Mágina mountain range in Jaén, you can discover cherry trees in blossom in March and April. White blooms fill the valleys, still edged by snow along the mountain tops. The largest group of cherry trees is in the municipality of Torres.

Jaén Cathedral

Example of the Andalusian Renaissance. The cathedral is home the Holy Veil, which according to tradition was used by Saint Veronica to wash Christ's face.

Santa Catalina Castle

A castle standing amid olive groves. The site offers visitors the chance to enjoy the fabulous views over the city of Jaén, and over an outstanding natural landscape.

Jaén Museum

The museum is divided into two major areas: one dedicated to Fine Art, and the other to Archaeology.

Baeza

Baeza is in the province of Jaén, where some of the world’s finest olive oil is produced. The city stands in a vast sea of olive groves, and its cobbled streets boast some of Europe’s best-conserved Renaissance buildings. Along with its sister city Úbeda, it forms part of a World Heritage site. An essential destination which evokes other times.

Beautiful Renaissance buildings are the main attraction in this World Heritage City, which with neighbouring Baeza is one of the best places in Europe to see Renaissance architecture and get a feel for what life was like in that period.

Alcalá la Real

It is about 60 kilometres from the city of Jaén. Its old town has been declared Property of Cultural Interest. The imposing La Mota Fortress stands out in the Arab-origin urban landscape of Alcalá la Real.
